Birstall Terrier: Aiming for the top

Not that it is imminent, regrettably, but it is a case of when.

As soon as promotion is mentioned, the doubters come to the forefront. They say: “We haven’t got the money to spend”, “we would be straight back down”, “we would hardly win a match” or “we would need too many new players”.

I am not saying some of these views are not justified, although most certainly not the one regarding Town hardly winning a game.

But what is wrong with being positive and looking at the good points?

The first and foremost point simply being Huddersfield Town in the Premier League! The mere words send a shiver down my spine.

Financially, we would be paid a substantial amount of money for gaining promotion and we would have the revenue from televised matches.

The Premier League matches are shown more frequently on television than the matches in lower leagues.

There would be the thrill of seeing Town compete against the top clubs.

On their day I believe Town would be capable of giving them a run for their money and would have no need to feel intimidated. Being promoted would prove that they have the required talent.

Most people say Town would only survive one season in the top flight. So what?

Think of all the local pride and excitement generated from that one season.

It will make many more people aware of the existence of Huddersfield Town and that can only be a good thing.

Think of the satisfaction for the chairman and the manager and all concerned with the club.

It would not be a disaster if Town were relegated back into the Championship as it is a fascinating league with a very high standard of football.

Going up? At the end of the 2014/2015 season I sincerely hope we are.
