Fisher progress in cup courtesy of Riordan’s five goals

ST JOHN Fisher ensured they progressed to the Heavy Woollen Challenge Cup third round after recording an emphatic 9-0 win over fellow Premier Division side Crown Leeds Road.

Dominic Riordan led the way with five goals, with Rob Bordman (brace), Mark Heseldin and Anthony Doran completing the tally.

Division One side Mirfield Town sprang the biggest shock of the round as they won 4-1 against Premier side Birstall St Patricks.

Niall Raymond hit a brace for Mirfield, who also had Tom Wilks and Robert Sowden on target. Jean Marie Julienne netted Birstall’s consolation. Heckmondwike Town are also through but needed extra-time to see off the challenge of Woodman Batley Carr in a 6-4 victory.

Heckmondwike scorers were Elliott Williams (hat-trick), Paul Walker (two) and Jamie Wasley, while Woodman replied through Wayne Dent, James Blane, James Goodall and Simon Rogers.

Jason Stainburn (two) and Stefan Godbold found the net as Howden Clough progressed with a 3-0 win over New Inn Staincliffe.

Barry Mitchell and Jamie Brannan both scored twice in Battyeford’s 7-4 extra time win over Thirsty Man. Danny Hickling, Joe Green and Mike Kelly hit the other goals with Thirsty Man replying through Lamin Bojang, Scott Ryan, Jermaine Davies and an own goal.

Danny Clapham (two), Oliver Fisher, Paul Smith, Joel Clegg and Luke Sherman found the net in The Scotland’s 6-1 win over Tingley WMC.

Navigation are through to the next round after strikes from Lee Bennett, Lewis Collinson, Robert McCall and Jordan Garbutt saw them to a 4-1 win at New Scarborough (Johnny Downey).
