Fisher cast for cup glory

It is the first time Heavy Woollen Sunday League Premier champions Fi-sher have entered the competition and although they have been drawn at home, the game must be played on a semi-professional club’s ground, so they will use Liversedge FC’s Clayborn.

The game will kick off at 2pm, allowing time for their opponents to get over from Merseyside, but this should also allow time for local Sunday League players from the Heavy Woollen to get to Liversedge.

Last year’s final was played at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light and the showpiece will again be held at a Premiership club’s ground.

Older players and spectators may well remember Batley side Barfield Arms’ foray into the competition in 1996, when they progressed all the way to the semi-final.

A brace from Conrad Spivey helped Barfield overcome Eastleigh in the last eight but they lost 2-0 to Dawlish Town at Anfield in the semis. In recent year’s Thornhill Lees have entered the competition.

St John Fisher must help with Oak Tree’s travelling expenses, so there will be a £3 admission on the gate.
