Farewell to Fox as Moor start new summer team

dewsbury Moor are holding a farewell party tonight, Friday, (8pm) for former Great Britain star Deryck Fox, who is leaving to take up a coaching appointment in Australia.

Fox has been a joint coach with the Moor Under-17s this time and has been a popular figure at Heckmondwike Road and the lads have benefited greatly from his experience and know-how.

Moor have entered the new Yorkshire Men’s League this summer, which is due to start on April 21. The proposed format will put them mainly against Conference club A teams.

They are inviting players who wish to try summer rugby to get in touch.

Moor continue their winter season in the Pennine Championship with a trip to York side New Earswick tomorrow. They are running a coach which leaves the club at noon.

Moor’s A team have a home game against Rodley Rockets in Division Seven.

Thornhill Trojans return to Pennine Division Two action against Sharlston A at Overthorpe Park. The Trojans produced a great effort at high-flying Fryston in the National Cup and were edged out by two points.

They are unbeaten in the league, six points behind leaders Brighouse but with five games in hand.

Unbeaten Division Six leaders Hanging Heaton meet Cowling Harlequins at Bywell Fields, while Ossett Trinity play a John Kane Cup semi-final at Batley Boys, a game which has a 1.30pm start.
