Extra time heartbreak for Moor in National Cup

Dewsbury Moor Under-18s produced a terrific effort to push Wigan St Patrick's all the way in the BARLA National Cup last Sunday.

Moor led 18-6 at one stage before St Pats fought back to level the game at 22-22 and send the tie to extra time.

Wigan eventually took a grip on the game, scoring two tries and a conversion to seal a 32-22 victory and leave Moor heartbroken.

Moor started brightly and showed no fear against their illustrious opponents with John Bowness driving his pack forward and Jacob Crosswell producing slick passes.

Archie Bruce went over for the opening try, which Cameron Adleigh converted.

Moor’s confidence grew and Billy Yarrow, Brad Samme and Alex Hollingworth produced strong runs before Elliot Sheard forced his way over and Adleigh converted as Moor led 12-0.

Wigan pulled a converted try back but Adleigh maintained Moor’s attacking momentum to send Jacob Crosswell over for their third try. Adleigh converted.

Wigan grabbed a second converted try soon after the interval but Hamza Riaz, Aiden Sheard and Joe Longstaffe produced strong runs which allowed Bruce to score and put Moor 22- 12 ahead with 12 minutes remaining.

Wigan pulled a converted try back and then drew level in the final minute only to miss the goal which would have snatched victory.

St Pats scored a converted try in the first period of extra time to lead for the first time and sealed victory with another score after the turnaround to seal victory after an enthralling youth cup tie.
