East Bierley bowlers shine in important derby victory

Bierley’s bowlers turned the screw to dismiss Hanging Heaton for 116 before the visitors completed a comfortable six-wicket victory.

Kez Ahmed had Heaton in a spin as his 3-10 helped dismiss the Bennett Lane men cheaply, despite David Stiff (40) offering resistance.

Captain Gavin Hamilton (49) and Mark Gill (30) steered Bierley towards their important win, despite John Carruthers claiming two wickets.

Champions Cleckheaton took over from Woodlands at the top following a crushing 150-run victory over Farsley.

Opener Andy Gorrod and Tim Jackson shared a superb 192-run opening partnership.

Gorrod made his maiden century for the club as he hit three sixes and 16 fours in an impressive innings of 124.

Jackson made 92, including two sixes and ten fours, as Cleck went on to post 273-9.

Former Yorkshire batsman Joe Sayers made an unbeaten 63 in reply but Farsley were dismissed for 123.

Spinners Tanzeel Altaf (5-44) and Andrew Deegan (3-34) shone as Cleckheaton collected a maximum 20 points.

Woodlands slipped to their first defeat of the season, going down by 10 runs at home to Pudsey St Lawrence.

Spinner Chris Brice (5-44) and captain Pieter Swanepoel (3-46) helped dismiss St Lawrence for 141.

Logan Weston produced the highest innings of the match to make 57 but lacked support as off spinner Steve Watts (4-29), backed by Richie Lamb (2-18) and Craig Wiseman (2-24) put the brake on.

In a tense finale, Woodlands lost their last wicket with the score on 131, with four balls of their innings remaining.
