Duo set to light up girls football

TWO local girl footballers have been thrust into the limelight after signing for two of the best women’s teams in the country.

Battyeford Belles player Isobelle Sibbald has signed for Leeds United Ladies Centre of Excellence, while Lillie Lawson has joined Manchester City.

Nine-year-old striker Isobelle scored 66 goals last season as she helped Battyeford Under-9s finish third in an Under-10s league and also reach the cup final.

Isobelle, who attends Holy Spirit School in Heckmondwike, also represented West Yorkshire last season when she helped them win the county cup.

Isobelle had a three-day trial with Leeds at Boston Spa when she beat off competition from 40 girls to be selected for the United Ladies Centre of Excellence.

Dad Jamie Sibbald said Leeds-fan Isobelle learned to play from a very early age and has played for Norristhorpe and Battyeford since the age of five.

Lillie was at Blackburn Rovers but impressed in recent three-week trials at City.

After playing well in a tournament in Manchester last weekend, the new City coach signed Cleckheaton Sporting Juniors player Lillie on a two-year deal.
