Draw specialists Liversedge hold high-fliers

Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against high-flying Bridlington Town was Sedge’s 12th stalemate of the season — more than any other side in the top flight.

The game was in danger of being halted after thick fog descended on Clayborn but the referee tried to get it played to a conclusion following Bridlington’s long midweek trip.

Sedge perhaps shaded a goalless first half before the game came to life in around the hour mark.

Sedge were penalised for a push in the area and Chris Batchelor stepped up to slot home the 58th minute penalty.

However, the home side were behind for just two minutes as Adam Jarrett produced a superb corner into the middle of the area.

The ball was knocked down and Chris Hirst slammed home.

Both sides had chances but Liversedge defended stoutly and they will have been happier with the point.

Liversedge fought out a 2-2 draw away to Long Eaton United last Saturday, with all four goals coming in the final 30 minutes.

Gibril Bojang put Sedge ahead on the hour but Matthew Savage got Long Eaton back on level terms after 71 minutes.

Jarrett looked to have bagged Liversedge an 88th minute winner, which would have been their first success in 10 outings but they were unable to hold on.

Deep into stoppage time, Hirst was judged to have handled the ball in the area and Shaun Rickford made no mistake from the penalty spot to rescue a point.

Liversedge remain 15th in the Premier table.
