Disappointing defeats for local Central Yorkshire League Premier trio

Mirfield Parish suffered a five-wicket defeat to leaders Methley as they slipped into the relegation zone.

Daniel Hope (29), Terence James (28) and captain Tim Orrell (25) were unable to build on useful starts during the Parish innings as they were bowled out for 192 in the 45th over.

Twins Marcus (3-59) and Eddie Walmsley (4-28) did the damage for Methley, who eased to their target in 36 overs.

Marcus Walmsley (47) top scored, with support coming from Luke Patel (33) and Richard Foster (33).

Defeat saw Parish slip second-bottom after Buttershaw St Paul’s recorded a 54-run victory over Altofts, who are bottom, while Townville moved up to second place, six points behind Methley, after a nine-wicket win over Carlton.

Batley suffered a 134-run defeat at the hands of Wrenthorpe despite Muhammed Hafeez claiming 4-72.

Jordan Sleightholme (77), Darryl Hendricks (65), Chris Leaf (36) and Neil Bourke (30) guided Wrenthorpe to 270-7.

Ayaz Seedat (40) and Sardar Hassan Khan (35) led the Batley reply but they were bowled out for 136 as Jack Rich (4-51), Leaf (3-43) and Matthew Race (3-32) impressed.

Eric Austin hit a splendid 95 but was unable to prevent Birstall slipping to a three-wicket defeat against Hunslet Nelson.

Austin’s fine knock included 15 fours, while Nick Kaye made 39 as Birstall reached 192-6, with Will Stiff claiming 3-46.

Joe Smith led the Hunslet Nelson reply with 62, while Jack Scanlon (31) and Alex Mitchell (46) supported to steer them to victory, despite the efforts of Umar Rehman (3-44) and captain Craig Wood (3-54).

Ossett suffered a second straight defeat and have slipped to fourth place, as they were overtaken by Wakefield Thornes.

Matthew Varley hit six fours and five sixes on his way to a top score of 62, while James Wolfenden (44), David Toft (41) and Joseph Cook (32) supported.

The Thornes innings was further boosted by an unbroken sixth wicket stand between Faisal Irfan (41no) and Tom Froggett (35no) as the Wakefield side closed on an impressive 300-5.

Shoaib Latif led the Ossett reply with 48 but they were dismissed for 136.

Ravinda Pallyaguruge had claimed five wickets in five balls during a midweek Twenty20 match and the Sri Lankan was again in fine form claiming 5-62.

Varley followed up his efforts with the bat by claiming 3-36 as Thornes completed a comfortable win.
