Dewsbury Rams cruise into Challenge Cup fourth round

DEWSBURY Rams eased into the fourth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Sunday thanks to a stunning 84-12 victory over Thatto Heath Crusaders.

The Rams ran in a staggering 15 tries, while stand-off Pat Walker landed 12 conversions, finishing just one short of the all-time Dewsbury record for goals in a match.

Walker was named man-of-the-match by Thatto Heath but that was, parhaps, harsh on winger Austin Buchanan, who ran in five tries in a superb display.

Full-back James Craven bagged a hat-trick, while substitute George Flanagan crossed twice.

There were further tries from Ed Barber, Scott Spaven, Ryan Esders, Billy Harris and Michael Wainwright.

The Rams had hopes of scoring a century of points as they led 50-0 at half-time but Thatto Heath improved in the second half and scored deserved consolation tries from Luke Bradshaw and Andy Lee, both of which were converted by full-back Shaun Quinn.

The fourth round is on Monday evening.
