Dewsbury offer fans incentives

DEWSBURY supporters are being urged to help introduce the club to potential new sponsors by offering a range of incentives to persuade them to get in touch.

The Rams have lost a number of key sponsors over the last couple of seasons, while others have reduced the money they are able to hand out, as the current tough climate hits local businesses hard.

However, with a number of very attractive Co-operative Championship derbies next season, Dewsbury see this as a great chance for new sponsors to get on board.

The Rams have already decided to withdraw their reserve side for next year in an attempt to save money but coach Warren Jowitt has still managed to put together a very competitive squad. It includes former St Helens star Nick Fozzard, Steve Crossley from Bradford Bulls and another Super League product in Dwayne Barker, while retaining the pick of last season’s squad in Pat Walker, James Craven, Michael Wainwright, Rob Spicer, Luke Blake and Austin Buchanan.

Tony Scargill, who is the ground safety officer at Tetley’s Stadium but also helps out on the commercial side, had the idea which could help put the Rams in touch with potential new partners.

Mr Scargill is offering incentives to supporters, which could range from a ball to an executive box for a Rams home game, if they provide a lead which helps them obtain sponsorship.

Fans are being encouraged to supply the marketing and commercial team with contacts who may be willing to support the Rams, their community programmes or general club developments.

If the potential sponsor does decide to back the Rams, the supporter supplying the lead will be entitled to a reward.

Chairman Mark Sawyer said: “Every club in rugby league needs to maximise its revenue streams and the commercial and marketing sales are a massive part of our overall income.

“The hardest part of making the sale is being able to get a foot in the door and being able to show people what we have to offer. Hopefully our supporters will be able to help us to overcome this obstacle.”

An increase in sponsorship would have the added benefit of enabling Dewsbury to increase the funds available for player recruitment, which is subject to the RFL’s salary cap regulations.

The Rams have seen a steady flow of supporters renewing their season tickets and the club are determined to sell 500, which would land them a £15,000 cash windfall courtesy of main sponsor Eric France.

The Rams are planning to stage a meet the players night in the Royal Suite on Friday December 9 (7.30pm) when the new home and away jerseys will also be revealed.

Dewsbury’s home playing shirt will be in traditional red, amber and black hoops, but the away jersey is being kept a closely guarded secret, although it is understood to be quite radical.

The club are hoping to give the season ticket sales a real push on that evening and are stressing that anyone who has already purchased one or buys one on the night will be able to use their £10 voucher off the new home and away shirts.

A new range of leisurewear, including hoodies, jackets or coats, fleeces and polo shirts will also be on sale in the lead up to Christmas.
