Dewsbury Moor’s open age sides have mixed fortunes

Dewsbury Moor Maroons slipped to a 44-12 defeat at Woolston in National Conference Division Three.

James Eatherley bagged a brace of tries for Moor, both of which were converted by Jacob Flathers but Christian Taylor grabbed a hat-trick for Woolston, who also had Billy Maunder (two), Anthony Clayton, Sean Conway and Ryan Brown crossing with Glyn Roberts landing six goals.

Moor will look to bounce back when they make the short trip to Eastmoor on Saturday.

Dewsbury Moor’s A team secured a 50-4 victory away to Wibsey in the Yorkshire Men’s League Entry Division.

Moor had seven Under-18 players on show and included Alex Bruce on his open age debut having just celebrated his 16th birthday.

Moor played with 12 men but it was enough against a Wibsey side who could only field 11.

Bruce sent Cain Crotty over for the first try, which Connor Vickers converted before Dean Carr sent Bruce on a 20 metre run to the line.

Wibsey pulled a try back but Vickers crossed at the other end and Bruce converted as Moor led 16-4 at half-time.

Dominic Scanlon, Louis Greenwood and Jonjoe Fox made good ground to put Moor on attack.

Vickers sent Fox over to extend Moor’s lead and Ben Wrightson then fended off four defenders to score and Crotty’s conversion extended the lead to 28-4.

Solid defence by Matt Hoyle, Dean Carr, Connor Ineson and Scott Sheard kept Wibsey at bay.

Good passing and support play from Vickers, Sheard and Bruce put Ineson sprinting over to score and Crotty converted.

Tries came at regular intervals as Wibsey tired with Wrightson, Aiden Sheard and Vickers adding to the scoreline.

Crotty and Dominic Scanlon added conversions as Moor topped the half century.

Moor A host neighbours Dewsbury Celtic this Saturday (2.30pm).
