Dewsbury Moor U14s book home date in National Youth Cup

The Moor youngsters are proving a threat in knock-out competitions having also had a good run in the Yorkshire Cup.

Moor kept the Humbersiders in check for much of the first half and Brad Llewellyn gave them the lead with a try which Jonathan Diskin converted only for Skirlaugh to hit back and equalise with a converted try of their own as the sides went into half-time level at 6-6.

The second half belonged to the junior Maroons as Conner Charlesworth made a good break to send Jay Scriven over for an unconverted try.

Good prompting by Taylor Franklin and the busy Brad Frost led to the elusive Diskin putting a kick through.

The Skirlaugh defence misfielded and Diskin gathered to touch down. He also converted to put Moor 16-6 ahead.

Forwards Aaron O’Neil, Ethan Starkey, Josh Inwood and Jacob White produced rampaging runs and it was no surprise when Tom Berry produced a neat pass to send Alex Hirst over, with Diskin adding the conversion as Moor took control.

Moor had shown their attacking qualities but also showed they are a good defensive unit as Callum Brookes, Ethan Thompson, Harry Thornton and Jake Wilson thwarted Skirlaugh’s efforts.

Berry made inroads to the visitors territory and was well supported by the lively Callum McGowan, who knocked away several would be tacklers as he barged over for a try.

Frost added the angled conversion to cap an impressive display and send Moor into the next round, where they entertain Widnes side Halton Farnworth on Sunday.

Moor Under-18s aim to become county champions this Sunday when they face their re-arranged BARLA Yorkshire Cup final against Skirlaugh.

The delayed final takes place at the John Charles Centre for Sports, South Leeds Stadium, and kicks off at 11.30am.
