Dewsbury and Batley Schools begin Drax Cup

Primary and junior schools from the Batley and Dewsbury area begin their bid for this year’s Drax Cup, the biggest cricket competition for Under-9s in the country, when event get underway next week.

Eight schools will compete in the Spen Valley School Sports Partnership stage at Cleckheaton CC from 10am on Monday, while the St John Fisher SSP will play a qualifier on Tuesday from 9.30am at Batley CC.

More than 550 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside are registered for the 2015 Drax Cup.

Teams play in a series of events to produce four area winners from the North, South, East and West. These teams will play the 2015 Drax Cup Finals at Headingley Cricket Ground on Friday 10 July, prior to Yorkshire Vikings v Durham Jets in the NatWest T20 Blast.

The competition is sponsored by Drax and organised by Yorkshire CCC in conjunction with The Yorkshire Cricket Board, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and The Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
