Derby triumph boosts Cleck’s league title bid

Woodlands would have felt confident of extending their lead at the top after posting 235-8, with Scott Richardson hitting a brilliant 124 including seven sixes and 13 fours.

However, Richardson was upstaged as Cleckheaton opener Tim Jackson hit a magnificent unbeaten 127 to set up Cleckheaton’s eight-wicket win.

Jackson, who leads the Division One batting averages at the halfway point of the season, struck four sixes and 17 fours and shared an unbroken third-wicket stand of 173 with Ian Nicholson, who ended 83 not out as Cleckheaton closed the gap on Woodlands to 11 points.

East Bierley had a 10-run win in a low scoring game at Morley to move sixth.

Bierley were bowled out for just 115 as David Paynter (4-23) and Kashif Naveed (4-28) shone but captain Kez Ahmed took control in reply and his 5-25 helped dismiss Morley for 105 to leave them bottom.

Hanging Heaton suffered an 87-run defeat to Pudsey Congs, who made 210-7 despite Dan Busfield’s 4-41.

David Stiff (49) and Gary Fellows (30) made useful runs in reply but Heaton were bowled out for 123 as Edward Walmsley claimed 7-29 from 15 overs.

Spen Victoria have opened up a 27-point lead over third placed New Farnley in the Division Two promotion race.

Spen overcame Brighouse by five wickets last Saturday, while New Farnley lost to leaders Farsley.

Rob Burton’s 6-22 helped Spen dismiss Brighouse for 72 before they completed a five-wicket win to leave them eight points behind Farsley.

Hartshead Moor had a comfortable six-wicket win over Windhill to move 10th in Division Two.

Martin Riley took 6-32 as the home side were dismissed for 91 before Hartshead eased to victory with Keegan Moodley making 30.

Gomersal suffered a 39-run defeat to Undercliffe as Ben Heritage made 116 not out in his side’s 232-4 .

Adam Greenwood (54) and Richard Gould (37) shone in Gomersal’s 193.
