Davies bags four but Old Bank bow out of Wheatley Cup

OLD Bank WMC were involved in a thrilling Wheatley Cup first round tie last Saturday but despite the Mirfield side scoring seven goals it wasn’t enough to prevent them bowing out.

Old Bank and AFC Two Brewers fought out a 14-goal thriller as the sides were level 7-7 after extra time before the Ossett side edged the penalty shoot out 3-2.

Defeat was particularly harsh on Patrick Davies as he scored four times, while Dave Asquith and Chris Dickinson were also among the Old Bank scorers.

Daniel Wood bagged a hat-trick for Two Brewers, who also had Daniel Clay (two), Stuart McLelland and Sam Bartley on target.

George Healey put up a terrific fight before they were edged out 4-3 by West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division side Hunsworth.

Ryan Bairstow, John Brook and James Simpson threatened a major upset for Spen Valley George but Hunsworth’s blushes were saved thanks to goals from Nathan Foster (two), Jack Rodgerson and Kieran Jackson.

Howden Clough were another side to survive a scare as they overcame Prince of Wales Ossett by the odd goal in seven.

Although Nicky Gill (two) and Mark Eglinton netted for Prince of Wales, Clough edged into the second round draw thanks to a brace apiece from Andrew Griffiths and Craig Fryer.

There were no such problems for Heckmondwike GS as they cruised to a 12-1 victory over Savile Town Athletic.

Adam Holt and Daniel Stanley fired a hat-trick apiece, there were two each from Barry Battye and Kristian Nalson, while David Blackley and Jordan Webster also netted.

There was better news for Savile Town as they produced an upset by dumping Wakefield League Premier side Battyeford Wasps out.

Although Joe Green struck for Battyeford it proved only a consolation as Savile Town eased through with goals from Nafees Hafeez, Huzaifa Adam, Yusuf Akudi and Mohammed Patel.

Thomas Hirst bagged a hat-trick as Thornhill United overcame Cross Keys Morley 4-0. Tristan Kennedy was their other scorer.

Park Earlsheaton gained a convincing 8-0 success over South Leeds Saints as Michael Chadwick bagged a hat-trick, while Danny Moffatt (two), Dean Rigby, John Pickles and Ryan Simmonds also netted.

Brad Jackson was another player in hat-trick form as he helped Quarry gain a 6-3 victory away to Wheelwright.

Quarry’s other goals came from Danny Goodlad (two) and Damien Auty against a side who are languishing in the bottom division of the Yorkshire Old Boys League.

Lee Grayshon and Ben Garner struck for Drighlington Adwalton but they slipped to a 3-2 defeat against Oakwell Reserves, while Halfway House Morley cruised into the next round with a 6-0 victory over FC Wellington with goals from Ryan Hartley (four), Tom Smith and Dan McKay.

Misa Rajah hit a consolation goal for Youth 2000 as they bowed out 3-1 at Morley Sports and Cricket Club (Ian McGowan, Kyle Varney and James Encell).

Former Huddersfield Town academy player Lewis Collinson bagged a hat-trick for Norristhorpe but although Graham Bentley and Darryl Smith were also on target, it wasn’t enough to prevent a 6-5 defeat against Drighlington Malt Shovel.

Inter Batley edged a seven goal thriller against Savile Town Reserves (Razeb Raja, Kyle Cooper and Fayyaz Bobat) as Ashraf Navsarka and Ramzan Mazhar hit a brace spiece.

Marsh gained a 6-3 victory over FC Bosnia (Nihad Kalabic, Salko Beganovic and Ades Jaganjac) as Chris Blackburn fired a hat-trick, Scott Waudby (two) and Jonny Asquith, while Norfolk bowed out 4-1 against Ossett Two Brewers, who had James Lewis (two), Nathan Hebbelethwaite, Tim Whittington on target.

Woodman cruised through with an 11-1 victory over Stithy as Blane (four), Snowden, Wilson, Flowers, Westbury, Spiers, Krucinski and McNamara were on target.
