Crossley injury blow for Rams

Crossley has been one of the Rams stand-out players this season and his inspirational displays have put Dewsbury onto the brink of a top-six finish in the Co-operative Championship.

The 21-year-old suffered the injury early in the second half of last Sunday’s 32-24 win over Swinton.

Remarkably, Crossley returned to the field later in the game to help thwart a Swinton fightback but he will now miss a number of crucial matches as the Rams chase a play-off place.

Crossley said: “Players and physios talk about getting a ‘stinger’ but I have never had one, so didn’t know what it felt like.

“The physio decided to take me off but I got ice on the injury and I would always put my hands up and go back on if I feel I can help the team.”

Crossley went home after Sunday’s game and it wasn’t until the following morning that he decided to get the injury checked out when it was confirmed he had cracked the collar bone.

Crossley added: “I have had injuries before and returned sooner than expected and I hate missing games, so hopefully I can get back before too long.”

Off the field, Dewsbury have paid off a long standing loan owed to Carlsberg brewery.

The loan was taken out when the club hit financial difficulties but Rams chairman Mark Sawyer is delighted that the club have finally paid their last instalment.

Mr Sawyer said: “We have worked hard in a tough financial climate to keep our heads above water, to keep our community development programme running and at the same time make inroads into the old debts we inherited when we rescued the club from administration.

“It will come as a great relief to those involved during those tough times that this loan has now been repaid and we can look forward to a secure financial future.”

Money saved is to be ploughed back into essential ground repairs.
