Crossbank have been invited to enter the Central Yorkshire League’s T20 tournament and they are hoping Tuesday’s eight-wicket win will strengthen their bid to be accepted into the league on a permanent basis.

Crossbank, who are rebuilding their clubhouse and improving facilities at The Rumbolds, are aiming to become the latest side to switch from the Huddersfield Central League to the CYL.

Birstall included a number of first teamers in Tuesday’s T20 derby but were restricted to 143-8 thanks largely to a terrific spell of bowling from Alan Firth, who claimed 5-23.

Birstall brought in promising young player Elliott Richardson as a ‘guest’ player from Woodlands and he top scored with 35, while Nick Kaye (32) and Adam Holroyd (28) supported.

Crossbank cruised to an eight-wicket win, reaching 147-2 in 18 overs as Firth finished unbeaten on 55, while James Lord made 38.

Crossbank warmed up for their derby at Birstall by defeating Birkby Rose Hill B in the Huddersfield Central Section A last Saturday.

James Abbott (3-20), Lord (3-51) and Paul James (3-31) impressed as Birkby were bowled out for 134 in 29 overs.

Crossbank lost seven wickets in reply but captain Richard Hosley guided them to victory, finishing 51 not out.

The Methodists travel to Woolley on Saturday and host Scholes in their final Twenty20 group game next Tuesday.
