Cricketers get unique chance to study and play

The Pro Coach Cricket Academy have teamed up with Leeds City College to run a cricket centre of excellence at Headingley during the next academic year.

There are only 18 places up for grabs in the first year and the college are holding an open day at Headingley on Friday (July 26) between 4-6pm, during which potential students will receive two hours free coaching, while experiencing what college life could be like.

Leeds City College have run similar schemes at football and rugby for 13 years and will now venture into cricket thanks to the help from Pro Coach.

The company, who have official ties with Yorkshire, was co-founded by Cleckheaton opening batsman and county captain Andrew Gale.

Pro coach business and education manager Chris Brice, who plays with Bradford League champions Woodlands, said: “Our full time, professional coaches hail straight from the first class game, helping create the perfect learning environment at college and at Headingley.

“The cricket programme will follow that of a professional cricketer throughout the year and we will be looking at fitness and diet along with cricket specific skills.”
