Openers pave the way to Priestley Cup success for East Bierley

Openers Matthew West (70no) and Sam Gatenby (55) shared a stand of 113 to set East Bierley on course for an eight-wicket win at Hartshead Moor in the first round of the Priestley Cup.

Ben Walter (4-40) and Danny Cross (3-26) bowled well as Hartshead Moor were dismissed for 173.

Opener Martin Ellis top scored for Moor with 67.

Bierley will now travel to Keighley in the second round while Gomersal will be away to Birstall after both teams received byes.

Hanging Heaton will not be joining them in the second round after they went down to an eight-wicket defeat at Townville.

Harry Warwick hit a match-winning 95 that enabled Townville to pass the visitors’ score of 184 in 36.3 overs. David Stiff, with 47 from 26 balls, and skipper Ben Kohler-Cadmore (41) were the main contributors to the Hanging Heaton total.

Premier Division side Cleckheaton were knocked out in a rain-affected tie by Division One outfit Ossett.

Batting first, Ossett posted 214 from 30 overs with Amir Hussain taking 3-38 and Harvey Booth 3-44.

Cleckheaton were set a Duckworth Lewis Stern target of 216 from 34 overs, but despite the efforts of Booth (63) and Nick Lindley (58) they were kept to 186-8.

Batley were all out for 101 as they lost by 10 wickets to holders Woodlands. Adnan Mahmood (41) top scored.
