Gomersal and Hartshead suffer disappointing losses

Gomersal slipped to a disappointing defeat at the hands of bottom side Yeadon on a day of surprises in the Allrounder Bradford League Championship One.

Yeadon completed a nine-wicket win to earn only their second success of the season but it wasn’t enough to lift them off the bottom as Ossett tied with Wrenthorpe.

Gomersal posted 233 with Richard Wear (42), Graham Hilton (41) and Joe Duffy (40) making useful contributions in the face of good bowling from Ryan Heptinstall (3-41) and James Massheder (3-66).

Yeadon opener James Todd made an impressive 124 not out, which included five sixes and 18 fours and was supported by David Machell (44) before Damon Gormley (60no) shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 152 as Yeadon overhauled the total with 4.2 overs to spare.

Ossett remain 20 points clear of Yeadon after they tied with second placed Wrenthorpe.

Ian Philliskirk (54) and Paul Malone (35) helped Ossett to make 236 as Jonathan Rudge picked up 4-48 for Wrenthorpe.

Captain Jordan Sleightholme (93) led the Wrenthorpe reply, while James Glynn (48) supported but Joe Finnigan (4-72) and Dan Busfield (3-57) kept plugging away and the game finished with the scores level with Wrenthorpe on 236-9.

Wrenthorpe are 20 points behind leaders Undercliffe, who returned to winning ways against Hunslet Nelson.

Batley were unable to build on their victory over Undercliffe as they lost by nine wickets to Pudsey Congs.

Naveed Zamurad made 40 and Kashif Talib (35) but Batley were bowled out for 133 as Jacques Allen claimed 4-26.

Hartshead Moor are just six points clear of Ossett after they were bowled out for 145 by Bankfoot as spinner Andrew Stothart took 5-25 despite the efforts of overseas player Ali Shan (63).

Captain James Lee (66no) and Shanz Prangige (49no) ensured Bankfoot reached their target with 23 overs to spare.

Morley maintained their grip third place, 14 points behind Wrenthorpe, after a 33-run win over Baildon.
