Bresnan has earned selection to face Australia at Lord’s after narrowly missing out on making the team for the opening Test.

Finn was preferred at Trent Bridge, but had a disappointing match and England are wanting a better seam bowling back up for opening bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

They are also looking for runs from the lower order with Yorkshire’s Bresnan in fine form with the bat recently, hitting a century in England’s warm-up game against Essex.

Bresnan’s Test record at Lord’s is not great, however, with five wickets at an average of 66 in three appearances.

He will make it three Yorkshire players in the England side, joining Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.
