Committee's efforts help scoop grant for Sedge

The car giant ran a social media competition with the hashtag #RealFansFirst.

Liversedge entered after problems with their Clayborn pitch prevented them playing a home game for more than 125 days between October 31 and March 8.

Sedge committee man Dan Cooper produced a lengthy dossier chartering the club’s history, honours won and how the club helps the wider community of North Kirklees.

He also included how the club would spend the £5,000 on pitch renovations should their bid be successful.

To Liversedge’s delight, they were awarded the grant and work will begin before the end of this month.

Cooper is a former Liversedge player and part of his entry to Hyundai said: “Employing professional contractors gives our ground staff the opportunity to learn and to be further educated in the upkeep of the pitch.

“It will allows us to facilitate more games, more teams and more participants in sport. It gives us a bigger playing window, meaning the pitch will be sound all year round and available during the wetter months.”

Liversedge’s plight was featured by the BBC and garden tool manufacturer Spear and Jackson contacted the club via Twitter after hearing about problems with their pitch.

They donated tools to the value of £500 to assist and Liversedge are now planning for extensive work on their pitch to be carried out.

Sedge have six home league games remaining, with the season due to finish on April 30.
