Clough and Battyeford top table

BATTYEFORD and Howden Clough lead the way in the Heavy Woollen League Division One after both extended their 100 per cent records to our matches last Sunday.

James Sweeney and Elliott Smith netted in Battyeford’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Oakwell Motel (Mark Lawton) and they are top thanks to a goal difference two better than Clough, who beat bottom side Overthorpe Town 4-1.

Danny Danby and Luke Adams scored two goals each for Clough, who also had Steven Brooke in outstanding form. Lewis Ward hit Overthorpe’s consolation.

Chris Shaw (two), Adam Frain, Paul Murphy and James Eatherley were on target as third placed New Inn Staincliffe’s won 5-3 at Bay Horse East Ardsley (Matthew Connor, James Turl and Matthew Bestington).

Birkenshaw Reserves are up to fourth after Dan Walding hit a hat-trick in their 6-2 win at Scholes Athletic.

Harry Saville (brace) and an own goal completed Birkenshaw’s tally, with Johnny Irvine netting twice for Scholes.

Tom Wilks hit four goals in Mirfield Town’s 7-2 rout of AFC Chickenley. Scott Young, Niall Raymond and Adam Brown were the other scorers, while Shaun McDaid netted both goals for Chickenley.

Thirsty Man beat Hartshead 6-3 thanks to strikes from Adam Smith (hat-trick), Jermaine Davies, Danny Damon and Patrick Davies. Gyles Wallbank, Mark Addy and Shaun Addy replied for Hartshead.
