Cleckheaton Colts set for title celebrations

CLECKHEATON RU Junior Colts will be crowned Divisiom Four West champions this Sunday if they win at Pontefract.

The Colts closed to within one win of the title with a 36-0 victory over Baildon under floodlights at Moorend on Wednesday night.

First half tries from Jack Seddon, George Speight, Josh White and Connor Wright gave Cleckheaton a 26-0 lead.

White added his second after the break and Rob Brown completed the scoring.

Last Sunday, Cleckheaton Colts won an entertaining friendly at Selby.

Tries from Wright, Seddon and White gave Cleckheaton a 21-12 half-time lead.

White’s second try extended the lead but although Selby fought back to within four points with 10 minutes remaining, further Cleck tries from Wright and Ryan Mortimer sealed victory.

The Colts have also qualified for the National Under 17 Shield and entertain Northwich of the Lancashire/Cheshire League in the Northern quarter-final on Sunday March 4.

A six week break showed as Cleckheaton Under-14s lost 47-0 at Castleford.

Front row Parkin, Lockwood and Purdy were unable to create space for backs Hidle, Dixon, Archer and Smith to capitalise.

Good mauling by second row Dezelak and Collins managed to get some momentum allowing debutant Moss a clean break but he was stopped short.

Poor tackling allowed Castleford to score five first half tries, although things improved after the break.

Back row Curley, Peel and McGovern made numerous tackles as Castleford dominated, preventing scrum-half Owens from being able to get quick ball to wingers Hughes and Tetley.
