Child’s play as Harry signs up for 79th season

Harry received his ticket from coach Warren Jowitt and president Jack Addy.

He said: “I started watching Dewsbury when I was five and when I got to seven my dad Tom, who played at the Underbank Amateur club with Harold Wagstaffe, said ‘It’s time you had a season ticket.’

“It cost five shillings. That was in 1932 and I’ve had one since.

“When we first moved from Huddersfield to Dewsbury we lived next door to the TV commentator Eddie Waring.

“I signed to play for the Black Knights, the amateur club Eddie formed at Crown Flatt at Under-16s, but the war came and I never played.

“I can remember watching Joe Lyman play and I think the best player I’ve seen at Dewsbury was Harry Street.

“I love this club and don’t know what I would do if I didn’t watch them.”

Harry’s brother Maurice holds the record for the longest season ticket holder at Dewsbury. He had one for 86 years until he died a few years ago at the age of 90.

Dewsbury chairman Mark Sawyer said: “Harry is a great supporter of the club. I only wish we had a few thousand like him.”
