The mates have completed two year scholarship programmes and will now look to follow in the footsteps of Dewsbury star Francis Cummins, who signed with Leeds as a schoolboy and went onto have an illustrious career with the Headingley club.

Centre or stand off Tommy and second row or prop Nyle began playing with Celtic as six year olds and have progressed through all the junior ranks together.

Like so many players to have progressed to the professional game from the town, including Cummins, both attended St Paulinus Junior School and then on to St John Fisher High.

While Nyle has opted to continue his studies at Fisher’s sixth form, Tommy is starting college in Leeds.

Both were spotted playing for Celtic and although Tommy signed scholarship forms for Leeds, Nyle initially joined Huddersfield Giants before switching to the Rhinos in his second year.

The pair were, perhaps, destined to have careers in the game as both their dads played rugby league.

Tommy’s dad, Mark Brierley, was a stalwart at the Dewsbury Celtic club, where he played for many years and had a hand in coaching the various juniors sides at the Westtown club.

Nyle’s dad, Aidie Flynn, signed for Wakefield Trinity as a 17-year-old and went on to have spells at Dewsbury Rams, Batley Bulldogs, Featherstone Rovers and Castleford Tigers as a prolific and successful try scoring winger.

Tommy and Nyle began training with the Rhinos under-19s last week after being unveiled at the recent first team game against Catalan Dragons and will spend the full winter with the squad.

The current crop of Leeds Rhinos under-19s are involved in the end of season play-offs as they chase the championship, with Nyle and Tommy looking to push for a place in the squad next season.
