Celtic joy at HW junior cup double success

Dewsbury Celtic triumphed 24-6 against Dewsbury Moor last Saturday in the Under-15 Heavy Woollen Cup final at Mount Pleasant.

A great tackle by Moor’s Elliot Jewitt halted a dangerous raid but Celtic took the lead with a Sam Graham try, goaled by Tom Brierley.

Moor responded as Dean Carr scooped up a loose ball and sent Joel Moorhouse over for a try goaled by Joel Catling.

Jewitt, Catling, Cain Croity, Cameron Johnson, Jordan Carter and Kieran Hepworth made fine runs but were met by solid tackling before Celtic led 12-6 thanks to a Graham try and a Brierley goal.

After the break both sides played their part in a competitive tussle but two converted Celtic tries saw them run out winners. MoM was Celtic’s Sam Halloran.

There was more joy for Celtic as they pulled clear after the break to win an excellent Heavy Woollen Under-13 Cup final 50-16 against Dewsbury Moor.

A competitive first half saw Moor trail 26-16 before Celtic scored five converted tries up the Mount Pleasant slope.

Early on Moor’s Brad Samme, Sam Canavan and Billy Yarrow impressed before Archie Bruce’s try was converted by Tyler Mellor. Adam Taylor’s fine tackle stopped Nathan Waring but Celtic struck as Callum O’Hara touched down.

Joss Oliver, Brad Saville and Thomas Chapman tackled well for Moor but Celtic led 14-6 after tries from Paul Foulstone and Reece Borbely plus a George Senior goal.

Moor hit back as Craig O’Donnell, Joss White and Taylor put Canavan over, Mellor converted, before good runs by Ellis Mountain, Tom Firth and Mateous Mordak.

A Ryan Scaife try goaled by Senior saw Celtic edged ahead but Moor’s Samme touched down from a Yarrow kick and Mellor added the goal.

A Foulstone try goaled by Senior saw Celtic move 10 points ahead at the break and Celtic pulled clear to secure victory

Further tries came from MoM Paul Foulstone, Ethan Ferry (two), Zak Haythorne and Joe Walton with two further conversions from Senior.
