Cavaliers out-gun rivals’ big hitters

Opener David Winn was the star of the show as his 122 guided Cavaliers to a mighty 301 all out and he found worthy support from Bradley Drake (70).

Saif Ur-Rehman once again led the Birstall attack with 6-68 as he tried to stem the flow of runs.

Birstall’s reply would have won many other games but Eric Austin’s 95 and Nick Kaye’s 46 was not enough as the visitors fell short on 274.

Christopher Rodwell did the damage with the ball by taking 6-55.

A fine knock of 65 from Kashif Talib went unrewarded as Batley suffered a heavy 121-run loss at home to table toppers Townville.

Huzaifa Patel (2-31) and Chinnada Rudramurthy (2-51) toiled with the ball only for the visitors to put a veryimpressive 236-6 onto the scoreboard.

Talib’s innings was one of only three double-digit scores in the Batley response however and the hosts were skittled out for 115.

The most convincing triumph of the weekend came in Hopton Mills’ 190-run demolition of Methley A in Division 1.

Mills declared on 225-6 after 40 overs in which Christopher Scott (74) and Ashley Mackereth (62) led the way in a comfortable innings.

Methley’s response lasted only 52 minutes as Mackereth (6-23) and Richard Myers (3-7) blasted through the order and sent the visitors packing with just 35 runs on the board.

Division leaders Scholes celebrated a five-wicket success at Mirfield.

Mirfield’s batsmen struggled and Yahya Bhayat’s 36 was the top score as Aleem Ladak (4-32) and Mohammed Sharafat (3-31) combined to end the hosts’ innings on 122.

Nasseer Saudagar (3-39) claimed a couple of early wickets to keep Scholes on their toes but Joseph Duffy (46 not out) stood firm to guide the visitors to 125-5.

Liversedge remained in touch with the leaders thanks to a thumping 106-run victory at home to Oulton.

Mark Hydes (41) made an early impression at the top of the hosts’ order before Sean Wilson smashed a brilliant innings of 102 at number five to boost Liversedge to a close on 222-7.

There was little in the way of resistance from the Oulton batsmen as Connor Rowlands (2-20) paved the way for Nigel Doyle (5-39) and Paul Marlow (2-4) to clear up the rest of the order and Oulton finally succumbed on 116 all out.

Scholes A remain in the Central Yorkshire League Division 3 relegation zone, despite a sensational 30-run win over promotion chasers Rodley.

Scholes turned the form book on its head thanks to an excellent innings of 238-6 in which Alastair Butters (70), Neil Kellett (45) and Ben Cross (56) did significant damage at the top of the order.

The visitors tried to respond with the bat and although they produced consistent scoring, Rodley’s batsmen failed to cope with the bowling of Ilyas Lunat (3-50) and Cross (2-50).

The visitors weren’t far behind their required run rate and they did enough to deny Scholes the six points but they fell short as they ran out of overs on 208-8.

Scholes are now only four points adrift of the safety zone.
