Riordan took over from Darryl Leach as captain and led the Clayborners for much of the campaign and had a terrific campaign which only saw him miss one game.

The popular defender agreed to stay, immediately after Sedge’s final day 2-0 defeat to Pickering Town last Saturday.

It proved to be an emotional day for Danny Toronczak, who was playing his final game in semi-professional football and was made captain for the day.

Toronczak headed over a good chance in the first minute and went close soon after as he showed determination to sign off with a goal.

Matty Thompson played Adam Jarrett through but the Pickering goalkeeper blocked well.

James Rothell was taken off with a groin injury, disrupting Sedge, and Pickering capitalised to score from their first chance on the stroke of half-time when Simon Sturdy headed home.

Sedge were further hampered when Chris Hirst was injured early in the second half and Pickering came more into the game.

Sedge pushed for a last minute equaliser but the visitors broke from halfway and Josh Hutchinson rounded the goalkeeper to slot home Pickering’s second with the last kick of the game and seal the home side’s fate.
