Burgess brothers nail Moor colours to mast

The three brothers took time out of England’s preparations for tomorrow’s World Cup group game against Ireland in Huddersfield by proudly showing the rugby league world the club where they started their careers.

The whole England squad were invited to wear the jerseys of the amateur clubs where they began playing and the Burgess brothers wasted no time in pulling on the famous maroon and gold of Dewsbury Moor.

Sam Burgess was also chosen as England’s representative to meet HRH Prince Charles at Clarence House on Tuesday as RL World Cup fever gathers pace.

Unfortunatley, Sam will miss tomorrow’s crucial second group game against Ireland after picking up a one-match ban for a high tackle in last Saturday’s opening game defeat to Australia in Cardiff.

The Dewsbury Burgess brothers made history in that game when all three lined up in the same England side against the Aussies.

It proved a memorable occaion for George Burgess as he was among England’s try scorers in the 28-20 defeat in Cardiff.

Despite now playing for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Australia’s NRL, the Burgess brothers have not forgotten their Dewsbury roots.

George Burgess paid a glowing tribute to his former club via Twitter, saying: “For anyone who isn’t clear, @dewsburymoorARL is my junior club and I’m very proud to come from such a great club! Get following them!!”

The Burgess brothers are also making big headlines back in Australia, with journalists covering the World Cup keen to discover the roots of their new found stars.
