Bromby vows to help home club Liversedge

Former Leeds United player Leigh Bromby has vowed to help the profile of the club where he started his career.

Former Premiership footballer Leigh Bromby has vowed to help raise the profile at the club where he started his career.

Bromby began his senior career at his local club Liversedge before signing professional terms with Sheffield Wednesday in 1998.

Liversedge still have a section of their clubhouse dedicated to Bromby, with memorabilia from his playing days on the walls.

The 35-year-old played 332 games for Wednesday, Sheffield United, Watford and Leeds United and is now professional development coach at Huddersfield Town.

Danny Cooper, a school friend of Bromby’s from their time at Whitcliffe Mount, played for a decade at Liversedge, and came up with the idea at a recent committee meeting.

Cooper said: “There are a lot of hardworking people at Liversedge but we need to raise the profile of the club, which is where the idea of contacting Leigh and other former players came about.

“Leigh is a Cleckheaton lad and said he would love to give something back to the club where it all started for him.”

Bromby added: “I’m privileged and honoured to be asked and feel like I need to give something back”

“I’ve played Premier League and would love for another young lad from the area to come through and make it.

“My dad, Dave, has very fond memories of my time at Liversedge and I am looking forward to spending time at the club when I can with my family. I may even get the missus doing the teas.”

Sedge drew 4-4 draw at Campion in their opening pre-season game on Tuesday with Devon McCallister, Conner Charlton and Callum Padgett on target. They host Main Road tomorrow with the first team kicking off at 3.30pm and the Under-19s at 1.30pm.
