BREAKING NEWS: Fozzard forced into retirement

DEWSBURY Rams star signing Nick Fozzard has been forced to retire due to a shoulder injury.

The popular former St Helens prop has recently been receiving treatment for a shoulder injury, where scans have shown that he has a torn rotator cuff.

This would require surgery to repair and Fozzard wouldn’t be back in action for at least nine months.

Fozzard acknowledges that the club would now be left short of a key player and he has made a honourable decision and has agreed to be released from the club which will free up funds for Warren Jowitt to pursue a replacement.

Jowitt told the Rams website: “I am gutted that we have lost a player of this calibre and he has been a big part of the team in pre-season and a giant character in the dressing rooms.

“In the short time that I have known Foz I have never met such a genuine and honourable person. His decision to free up funds, for me and the team goes beyond the call of duty as I imagine not many would do this, we would like to wish him and his family all the best and I’m quite sure he will have a iron in the fire somewhere.”
