Warrington aims to put on classy show

Warrington, fighting out of Batley’s Central Boxing Club, will top the bill when he defends his English featherweight title against Berkshire’s Ian Bailey.

A near sell-out crowd is expected at Leeds United’s Elland Road pavillion and Warrington has vowed to turn on the style.

The 22-year-old said: “The publicity and PR we’ve had for this fight has been superb with radio and press interviews and Leeds United getting involved.

“The training is done and we’re just putting the finishing touches together and working on a couple of combinations but Friday is all about me putting on a performance.

“It gets to this stage and you just want fight night to arrive so you can get in there and do the business.”

He added: “I know there are people coming who have never been to a boxing show before and I want them to see a good performance and a big finish.

“I need to push on now and if I’m going to press for a British title shot, I need to make an impression on Friday.

“He (Bailey) has been talking about coming here and causing an upset but I’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Warrington has become settled at the Central Club, training alongside Gary Sykes and Femi Fehintola, and admits the gym could be on the verge of big things.

The ardent Leeds United fan added: “Gary has got his shot at the British title and I am chasing titles this season, including my own shot at the British.

“If we were to have two British champions from the Central is would be huge for the area and a big thing for the gym.”

Victory for Warrington on Friday will extend his winning run as a professional to 15 fights.

Slough based 29-year-old Bailey comes to the ring with a record of nine wins and 14 defeats from his 23 bouts.

He is the Southern Area featherweight champion having defeated Dan Naylor over 10 rounds in July.
