Central star Josh in line for title shot

Warrington has been added to the impressive Matchroom bill, which will feature Olympic Gold medallist Luke Campbell and Hull favourite Tommy Coyle.

The clash between the two unbeaten featherweights could now be for either the Commonwealth or British title, both of which look set be vacated by Lee Selby.

Mouneimne, 24, boasts a record of 13 wins and a draw from his 14 bouts and originally looked set to challenge for Warrington’s English title.

However, the bout could now be for either the Commonwealth or British title.

It will be just five weeks since Warrington defended his English title with a comprehensive victory over Ian Bailey at Elland Road.

There were rumours that something big could be on the horizon for Warrington, who was straight back in the gym following the 15th win of his career.

Mouneimne is the only man to have defeated Selby, while his last bout was a seventh round stoppage win over Bailey eight months ago.

Speaking after his victory over Bailey, Warrington said: “I want that British title and if I were to fight for the Lonsdale belt I’d train so hard, I’d train my body not to get hurt.”

Leeds Warrior Warrington has been training hard at Batley’s Central Boxing Club, alongside British super featherweight title challenger Gary Sykes.

The 22-year-old added: “There are big things happening at Central with Gary getting his British title shot and hopefully we will have a couple of British champions from the gym.”

Warrington may not have anticipated his big chance would come round so quickly but he is sure to grasp.

Dewsbury star Sykes was due to meet British title holder Stephen Smith for the Lonsdale belt at the Liverpool Echo Arena on December 7 but that will not now happen.

Smith has switched promoters from Frank Warren to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and has now been placed on the huge Carl Froch v George Groves bill in Manchester on November 23.

Sykes remains the mandatory challenger for the British super feathweight crown and under British Boxing Board of Control rules, the Dewsbury Moor man should be next in line to fight for the super featherweight crown.

Sykes warmed up nicely with a comprehensive points victory over Mark McKray on the undercard to Warrington’s English title defence on September 27.

The 29-year-old has been working hard with his close knit team of trainer Julian McGowan and John Tallant and is biding his time until an official announcement is made regarding the British title.
