Aitcheson is focusing on Mitchell test

Aitcheson is aiming to record a fourth straight win in the professional ranks before being ringside to cheer on Central Boxing stablemate Gary Sykes in his British title fight.

At 37, Mitchell is a veteran of 69 fights but although he has lost 59, only two have come by way of stoppage.

Aitcheson said: “Fighting a journeyman gives me chance to show off my boxing skills.

“People know I can bang but I want to show them that I can box as well. I’m excited for Gary but I need to stay focused on my own fight.

“Being around Gary training has been great and I was around when he was British champion before. That just makes you hungry to win belts yourself.”

Julian McGowan will be in the corner for both Aitcheson and Sykes, which means Tony’s fight is likely to be earlier than a chief support would usually be.

McGowan said: “Me and Tony will arrive slightly earlier than Gary and we will concentrate on his fight but our close team will be together in the same dressing room.

“Tony needs to focus on his fight but he can then get changed, put on his Team Sykes T-shirt and walk Gary to the ring.”

It is anticipated Aitcheson will be the third or fourth fight on, with the final running ordered expected at Friday’s weigh-in.

Two boxers will make their professional debuts on the Dewsbury bill this Saturday.

Cruiserweight Tommy McCarthy is travelling from Belfast for his pro bow and is joined by fellow debutant, Lancashire’s Dale Coyne.

AJ Faizy, unbeaten in his first two fights, is on the seven fight card, along with Rochdale light middleweight Mark Thompson and Hollyhead’s Mark Evans.
