Bowling brushed aside as Trojans maintain challenge

Thornhill Trojans swept aside a very youthful West Bowling team, winning 64-18, to maintain their climb towards the Premier Division summit.

The game was over as a meaningful contest by half-time as Thornhill were sitting comfortably 46-4 before easing off after the break.

MoM was scrum-half Danny Ratcliffe in this 11 try demolition but he was pushed all the way by hat-trick hero Joel Gibson, who took his season’s try haul to 21 from 20 games.

Adam Bird charged over in the corner for an unconverted try when he capitalised on a break from Joss Ratcliffe but it was quickly cancelled out by Bowling’s Chris Curtain.

The onslaught started when Jordan Lowther broke and fed Gibson, who cut inside and scored between the posts to give himself an easy goal.

Prop Ben Kendall went on a rampaging run to score and Sam Ratcliffe stepped away for another long range try, both converted by Gibson.

Danny Ratcliffe unselfishly put Gibson between the posts. Richard Bostock forced his way over and Danny Ratcliffe linked with Liam Morley for another, with Gibson landing the three goals.

Bird sent Gibson over for his hat-trick try and the goal put Thornhill 46-4 ahead.

To their credit the young West Bowling players refused to give in and tried to make a game of it in the second half.

Two tries from winger James Crabb showed that there was a fight left in the visitors but Thornhill winger Mindaugas Bendikas sprinted away for another try, which Sam Ratcliffe converted.

Ollie Bartle scored Bowling’s final try before Ben Cousins was sent off for a swinging arm, which sparked a brawl, and Thornhill scored further tries from Sam Ratcliffe and Anthony Harris, both improved by Ratcliffe, to round off an impressive display.
