Battyeford survival hopes boost

BATTYEFORD Wasps gave their survival hopes a real boost with a 2-0 derby win over Thornhill in the Wakefield League Premier Division last Saturday.

Battyeford remain second-bottom but have closed the gap on third-bottom Kingstone United WMC to just a point, while they also have two games in hand.

Joe Green and Lee Halstead were Battyeford’s scorers as Thornhill stay in sixth.

Dewsbury Rangers slipped closer to relegation following a 7-2 defeat at leaders Gate. Gareth Smith bagged a brace but they are six points behind Battyeford and have only four games left.

Old Bank WMC remain in the Division Two promotion hunt after a 4-0 win away to bottom side Wrenthorpe.

Bank are fourth but they have four games in hand on College and Inns of Court, who are directly above them. Old Bank trail leaders Plough by 11 points with three games in hand.

Dewsbury Rangers Reserves earned a 4-1 win over Horbury Athletic in Division Three thanks to goals from Chris Sugden, Josh Milnes, Sean Spivey and Rob Smith.
