Batley’s hopes boosted by victory

A four-point haul from a thrilling two-wicket success at Northowram Fields last Saturday leaves Batley only four points adrift of safety.

Naweed Ghany (3-39) helped to restrict Fields to 185-9 before he hit 50 to guide Batley to 188-8 with only four balls to spare.

Tharaka Gunarathne’s 113 not out inspired Cavaliers to 243-7 and, despite the efforts of Michael Padgett (4-37), Carlton reached 244-8 with two balls remaining.

Moorlands closed in on the Division One title with a 71-run win over Buttershaw St Paul’s.

Stephen Lane (50 not out) top-scored in Moorlands’ 209-5 while Andrew Walker (4-42) led the attack to dispatch Saints for 138.

Hopton Mills are up to fourth after beating Oulton by 63 runs.

Mills limped to 128-9 but Philip Scott (4-7) and Michael Carroll (3-9) sent Oulton packing for 65.

Scholes hit 310-7 to win by 22 runs at Wakefield Thornes A. Andrew Spencer (89) starred in the visitors’ innings and Richard West (5-58) made his mark as Thornes were dismissed for 288.

Liversedge’s total of 113 was not enough as visitors Ossett triumphed with 114-1.

Mirfield’s promotion hopes in Division 2 remain alive after edging out Gildersome by one wicket. The hosts hit 136 and Mirfield did just enough with a reply of 137-9.

Batley A are in big trouble at the bottom of the table after a 46-run loss to Wrenthorpe A, Birstall A suffered a 128-run defeat at Ossett A and Mirfield Parish Cavaliers A went down by three wickets at Buttershaw St Paul’s A.

In Division 3, Scholes A came up 21 runs short in their clash with Adwalton, Moorlands A lost by 98 runs at Carlton A and bottom side Hopton Mills went down by 110 runs to Gildersome A.

Liversedge A moved into the top two of Division 4 after cruising to a nine-wicket win at Westwood Park A while Mirfield A dropped to third with a three-wicket loss at home to East Leeds A.
