Batley suffer set back as Methley extend advantage

The reigning champions have extended their lead at the top to eight points over Townville, who were unable to bowl Hunslet Nelson out to claim maximum points.

Batley were dismissed for 104, with opener Sufyan Patel (22) the only batsman to make any impact.

Marcus Walmsley (3-31) was the pick of the bowlers and the Methley captain then hit 30 to put his side on course for a comfortable win.

Luke Patel (32) top scored as Methley reached their target at the start of the 29th over.

Birstall suffered a shock defeat against Altofts, who moved off the foot of the table and are now 10 points off safety.

Joshua Drummond led the Altofts innings as he scored at a run-a-ball for an impressive 106, including 14 fours and two sixes.

Callum Nuttall (35), Brent Law (30) and Jordan Carter (30no) also made useful contributions as Altofts closed on 268-7.

Birstall were dismissed for 112 in reply, with only veteran Paul Blakeley (29) making an impact late in their innings.

Jonathon Donnelly (4-16) and Myles Robinson (3-37) did most of the damage with the ball as Altofts gave themselves a lifeline of avoiding the drop.

Buttershaw St Pauls slipped to the foot of the table following defeat to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, who racked up an impressive 329-4 from their 50 overs.

Tim Orrell hit 15 fours and two sixes on his way to 83 and shared a 101-run opening wicket partnership with David Blakeley (38) to set Parish on course for a big score.

Nazar Hussain blasted 119 not out from just 69 balls, including nine fours and 10 sixes, while Terence James (37no) and Mohammed Wadee (26no) boosted the total further with an unbroken partnership.

Nazar Hussain then returned 4-26 and with support from Tom Fretwell (3-41) Buttershaw were bowled out for 169, despite Adam Wainwright (33) top scoring.

Yorkshire all-rounder Rich Pyrah was unable to prevent Ossett slipping to a 199-run defeat at the hands of Wrenthorpe.

Darryl Hendricks struck 14 fours in a top score of 90, with support from youngster Sam Wigglesworth (59) and Chris Leaf (28no) boosting the Wrenthorpe total to 238-7.

Pyrah, Thomas Chippendale and Rohan Randhawa claimed two wickets apiece for Ossett before things went dramatically wrong.

Ossett were skittled for just 39 in 12.4 overs of their reply as six players were dismissed without scoring and not one batsman managed double figures.

James Glynn instigated the collapse with a devastating spell of bowling which saw him claim 9-11 in 6.4 overs.

Townville’s hopes of catching Methley suffered a blip as they defeated lowly Hunslet Nelson but failed to take maximum points.

Kristian Ward (75), Jack Hughes (58) and Conor Harvey (35) contributed to Townville’s 231 all out in 49 overs.

Warren Ekstraal (5-65) was pick of the Nelson bowling.

Daniel McTernan (37), Alex Mitchell (35) and Andrew McIntosh (31) offered resistance in the face of good bowling from Anureg Verma (3-45) and Hughes (3-47) as Nelson closed on 177-9 from 51 overs.

Wakefield Thornes overhauled Carlton’s 223-8 to win by eight wickets.
