Austin century sets up emphatic Birstall win

Eric Austin scored a magnificent 126 not out to set up Birstall’s 126-run win over Mirfield Parish Cavaliers in the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division last Saturday.

Austin shared a 131-run stand with Nick Kaye (55) and his 125 ball innings included 17 fours and three sixes.

Rob McFarlane (28) and Waz Nazir (26no) also chipped in as Birstall reached 270-4.

Captain Tim Orrell made 80 at the top of the Mirfield Parish innings, including 10 fours and three sixes but they were bowled out for 144 as Umar Rehman (4-46) and Paul Blakeley (3-12) impressed.

Batley moved six points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a four-wicket win over Buttershaw St Pauls, who slip to the foot of the table.

Buttershaw were in trouble at 72-6 and 94-7 as Huzaifa Patel claimed 5-41 before the tail wagged with Abubaker Dawood (29), Ian Carradice (41) and Matthew Barnes (27no) steering them to 157-8.

Fawad Maqsood scored 27 opening the Batley innings, while Sardar Hassan Khan (52no) and Tariq Hussain (25no) steered the Mount Pleasant side to victory with an unbroken 49-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

Methley moved six points clear at the top of the table thanks to a 62-run win over second placed Ossett.

Opener Richard Foster (40) top scored for Methley, who needed a late knock of 28 not out from no10 batsman Mustafa Bashir to steer them to 189-9.

Thomas Chippendale claimed 3-68, while Conor Andrews and Rohan Randhawa picked up two wickets apiece for Ossett.

Wickets fell at regular intervals in reply in the face of impressive bowling from Eddie Walmsley (5-29).

Gavin Goodlad and Michael Edwards joint top scored with 26 apiece as Ossett were bowled out for 127 with Sohail Raz and Marcus Walmsley picking up two wickets each.

Jonny Booth was another player in century form as he helped Townville to a five-wicket win over lowly Altofts.

Peter Hepworth (4-39) helped restrict Altofts to 187-6 before Booth cracked 16 fours and a six to finish 100 not out as Townville moved level on 28 points with Ossett.

Wrenthorpe are fourth, four points further behind, following a 28 run victory over Wakefield Thornes.

Darryl Hendricks (51) and Neil Bourke (69) shared a 102-run opening wicket stand as Wrenthorpe posted 216-8 before dismissing Thornes for 188, with Jack Rick claiming 4-59.

Hunslet Nelson moved out of the bottom two with a 15-run victory over Carlton.

Warren Ekstraal top scored with 80 as Nelson posted 229-9 and the South African all-rounder followed up by claiming 4-15 as Carlton were bowled out for 214 with just four balls of their innings remaining.
