Andrew Gale helps launch Drax Cup

Yorkshire cricket captain Andrew Gale and England women’s bowler Katherine Brunt are urging local primary school teams to enter this year’s Drax Cup.

Gale and Brunt, the 2011 Women’s Cricketer of the Year, are both ambassadors for the Drax Cup, the biggest cricket competition for Under-9s in the country.

Schools need to enter teams by Friday March 23 by e-mailing [email protected] or by contacting the Yorkshire Cricket Board cricket development manager for their region.

Gale said: “I first played cricket when I was eight and the Drax Cup is a fantastic way to of introducing the game to youngsters.”

The competition begins after Easter and runs until July. Teams play in a series of round robin events to produce four area winners, one from each region of Yorkshire.

These four teams play the Drax Cup finals at Headingley on Sunday July 8, prior to Yorkshire’s Friends Provident Twenty20 Cup match against Derbyshire.
