All-round effort seals Batley’s first success

Batley defeated Altofts by nine wickets to seal a first win in the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division last Saturday.

Stephen Palmer (42) and Akram Asif (33) made useful contributions but the last five Altofts wickets fell for just five runs as they were dismissed for 129.

Muhammed Shahnawaz claimed 6-30 before Sufyan Patel (42no) and Sardar Hassan Khan (65no) powered Batley to victory in just 18.1 overs.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers have slipped to the bottom following a three-wicket defeat to Carlton.

Yasir Ali (64) and Nazar Hussain (57) helped Parish post 194-8 but although Daniel Padgett claimed 3-53 in reply, Carlton edged home thanks to Daniel Wilbor’s 55 and a crucial 36 not out by Furrakh Alam.

Ossett remain second, just two points behind Methley, after a 65-run victory over Hunslet Nelson.

Shoaib Latif smashed a superb 117, including 16 fours and a six, as Ossett posted 220-7.

Rohan Randhawa (3-39) and Gurma Randawa (3-33) then combined to dismiss Nelson for 155.

Birstall suffered a 23-run defeat at Wrenthorpe.

Umar Rehman (4-46) and Craig Wood (3-34) bowled impressive spells but a late 37 by no9 batsman James Glynn saw Wrenthorpe reach 191-9.

Waz Nazir hit 44 in reply but Birstall were dismissed for 168 as Chris Leaf (4-39) and Glynn (3-42) impressed.

Hopton Mills are the new Championship leaders following their crushing eight-wicket win over Oulton.

Liversedge earned their first win of the season as they overcame previous leaders Azaad by 12 runs to move level on 12 points with Oulton.

Neil Browne (4-18) and Ashley Mackereth (3-23) helped dismiss Oulton for just 71 before Mackereth made 34 as Hopton required just 13 overs to reach their target.

Hopton and Azaad are level on 17 points with Northowram Fields and Wakefield St Michael’s just a point behind following wins over East Ardsley and Caribbean respectively.

Mirfield took advantage of Great Preston’s week off to move within two points of the second placed team in Division One.

Alex Pearson had a tremendous game as he followed up 4-40 with the ball by hitting a splendid 130 not out as Mirfield overhauled Rodley’s impressive total of 216-9 to win by two wickets.

Crossbank Methodists are still seeking their first win after they went down by six wickets to leaders East Leeds.

Paul James (69) top scored in Crossbank’s 155 all out, of which Khalil Liaquat claimed 5-36.

Gary Sagar hit 79 in reply to steer East Leeds to a comfortable win which sees them eight points clear at the top.
