Aitcheson returns with fine victory

Dewsbury’s Tony Aitcheson made a winning return to the boxing ring on Friday night when he overcame Nottingham’s Nathan Capeness on points at Leeds Town Hall.

Over 150 Dewsbury fight fans battled through heavy snow to get to Leeds and cheer Aitcheson on and the 23-year-old didn’t disappoint.

Aitcheson was a little erratic early on, as he went in search of a knock-out, but he settled well to outbox Capeness.

The Nottingham man was six pounds heavier than Aitcheson and had a significant height and reach advantage but it was the Dewsbury man who produced the neater work throughout.

Towards the end of the final of six two minute rounds, Aitcheson sent Capeness crashing to the canvas with a beautiful right left combination.

Capeness managed to beat the count and kept Aitcheson at bay for the remainder of the fight to hear the final bell.

Aitcheson was awarded the contest 59 points to 55 by referee Michael Alexander.
