Simon Cowell's new BBC talent show The Greatest Dancer wants contestants

The Greatest Dancer, the latest project from X Factor head honcho Simon Cowell, is an exciting new dance competition for BBC One.

The eight-part series will air on Saturday nights, and will set out to uncover the UK's best dancers in a variety of dance styles: Ballroom, ballet, Bollywood, tap, tango, jazz, jive '“ you name it.

Every contestant will have one aim: to become'¦ yes, you guessed right'¦ the UK's Greatest Dancer.

Although the judges are yet to be confirmed, it is expected Cowell will be joined by Cheryl Cole and Alesha Dixon, among others.

"With the continued success of Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC is undoubtedly the home of dance," says Kate Phillips, Controller of Entertainment Commissioning for the BBC.

"By launching The Greatest Dancer we want to give the vast array of dance talent across the UK the chance to shine."

Winners' wodge

A spokesperson for the BBC adds: "We're looking for soloists, duos and groups across all dance styles to take part in the show and compete for a cash prize of £50,000.

"Whether you are a professionally trained dancer, or someone who likes to have a boogie on the dance floor on a Saturday night, we would love to hear from you,"

To apply to be on The Greatest Dancer, you must be seven years of age and over.

A parent or legal guardian must apply on behalf of a child aged between 7 and 17.

Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK.
