New James Bond film cast, release date and what we've learned from the trailers so far

A 30-second TV spot unveiled as part of Super Bowl LIV showed very little new footage from the 25th Bond movie.

But the new teaser trailer for No Time To Die did give us a few brief glimpses of new scenes, not seen in the movie's first full-length trailer back in December

Here's everything we know about the film:

What happens in No Time To Die?

In the new film, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica when his old friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) from the CIA turns up asking for help.

A mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading the spy onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

The film will also introduce us to the new 007, played by British actress Lashana Lynch.

Note that the 31-year-old isn't the next James Bond, but has rather taken on his codename after two years of James' retirement.

According to the Mail on Sunday, a "movie insider" said the opening scene of the new film shows Lynch being referred to as the spy's codename - as Bond himself has left the Secret Intelligent Service to retire in Jamaica.

The source said: “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman. It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007.”

Who's in it?

The cast of No Time To Die was announced during a live event in Jamaica in April, with Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch and Ana De Armas joining the line-up.

Malek - who won the Best Actor Oscar at last year Academy Awards for his portrayal of Freddy Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody - plays the film's big baddie, Safin.

Ana De Armas plays Paloma, a CIA agent assisting Bond, while Léa Seydoux returns as Dr. Madeleine Swann from Spectre.

In fact, with so many characters returning (Blofeld's back again, albeit in captivity), it looks as if producers could be following the template of Marvel and other 'cinematic universes' by having everything interwoven in one continuous timeline.

If a new Bond is revealed at the end of No Time To Die (though in the best case scenario, Lynch gets to stay on as the series' focus), it's likely we'll get an in-canon continuation of the character, rather than a reboot.

Who is singing the theme tune?

Pop sensation Billie Eilish has recorded the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film, No Time To Die, producers have confirmed.

The 18-year-old is the youngest singer in history to record a theme song for the long-running film franchise.

Eilish, who has secured a huge following for hits like 'Bury A Friend' and 'Bad Guy', already has four gold, and two platinum singles to her name.

Producers said Eilish had co-written the song with her brother, Finneas O’Connell.

O’Connell, a musician and actor in his own right, has collaborated successfully with his younger sister before.

Last year, he won a Grammy for his work producing Eilish’s double-platinum selling album, 'When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?'

Has the film had any production issues?

The movie, which is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, has been beset by issues in recent months, with a "controlled explosion" damaging the outside of the famous 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, leaving a crew member injured.

No-one working inside the studio was hurt, but one crew member outside suffered a "minor injury".

In May, Craig was injured while filming in Jamaica, forcing the actor, 51, to undergo "minor ankle surgery".

However, the cast appeared in good spirits when they were visited on set by the Prince of Wales in June.

When can I watch it?

No Time To Die will be released in UK cinemas on Thursday 2 April 2020.
