Young get drug advice

MOSQUE leaders have teamed up with police and Kirklees Faith Network to teach young Muslims about the dangers of taking drugs.

PC Pete Whitehouse and Waseem Riaz, from the faith network, are visiting mosques in Dewsbury, Batley and Heckmondwike to give children aged nine and above advice on the problems caused by drug abuse.

PC Whitehouse said: “These talks give us the opportunity to interact with children who could be approaching the age where drugs come into their lives, be it through a general awareness as they get older or through friends or family being affected by substance misuse.

“We will be giving children the facts from both a legal and health point of view. While it will serve as a warning, we don’t want to dictate to children and switch them off.”
