World Cup action heads to our towns

Rugby league teams from across the globe will descend on North Kirklees for an international festival of sport.

Matches in the Women’s, Police and Student World Cups will take place at the Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs stadiums as part of the Festival of World Cups.

It’s part of a big year for the sport throughout the country – the Rugby League World Cup is being staged in England and Wales this Autumn.

Andy Jordan, business and community manager of Batley Bulldogs, said: “ We are very excited to be hosting some of the best young talent in the world from the student game, along with the best female players from around the globe.”

Dewsbury Rams chairman Mark Sawyer added: “With the town having such a rich rugby league tradition, I am sure that the people of Dewsbury will turn out in force to welcome our guests and witness some tremendous action.”

Admission for the games is £4 for adults and £1 for under 16s on the day of each fixture. Dewsbury tickets are also available in advance from Dewsbury Rams.

July 4: Student – Wales v South Africa, 6pm; England v Ireland, 8pm.

July 12: Student – third place Group A v third place Group B, 6pm; first place Group A v second place Group B, 8pm.

Fixtures at Tetley’s Stadium, Dewsbury.

July 5: Women – New Zealand v France, 4pm; England v Australia, 6pm; Police – Great Britain v Australia, 6pm.

July 10: Student – Scotland v New Zealand, 6pm; Australia v Russia, 8pm.

July 12: Student – fourth place Group A v fourth place Group B, 6pm; first place Group B v second place Group A, 8pm.
