Workshop will address prejudice

The event, organised by Dewsbury based national organisation Muslim Engagement and Development (MEND), will take place as part of November’s Islamophobia Awareness Month.

MEND is a specialist Muslim organisation dedicated to tackling and educating the public about Islamophobia.

It advocates in Westminster, sits on the Crown Prosecution Service’s national hate crime panel, works with police forces across the country to reduce the number of Islamophobic attacks, and aims to develop empowerment among the Muslim community.

It is hosting a series of seminars, nationally, focusing on prejudicial issues which concern many Muslims in today’s multi-cultural society.

One of the workshops, led by key speaker and MEND chief executive Sufyan Ismail, will take place at The Victoria Suite in Savile Town on Sunday, November 8.

Waris Ali, a Dewsbury man who was arrested on terrorism charges and acquitted at trial, will also speak at the event.

Influential Kirklees Muslims, community leaders, local businesses, women’s groups, cohesion groups and significant community figures will be in attendance.

Sunday’s free seminar takes place at 6pm. Refreshments will be available.
