Woman hit by a train at Dewsbury station is in stable condition

British Transport Police said today that the 47-year-old woman, who suffered head injuries, was now in a stable condition.

Emergency services were called to the station at 3.13pm yesterday after the woman was hit by a First Transpennine Express train heading towards Huddersfield.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital by Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Passengers, some of whom were visibly distressed, were led off the train and out of the station where they waited for around 30 minutes before alternative transport was found.

All others waiting for trains were asked to leave the station, which re-opened to the public by 5pm.

A BTP spokesman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
